When paid vacation has been accrued, the employee is entitled to vacation pay, to be paid in conjunction with the vacation. According to the Annual Leave Act, there are two ways to calculate vacation pay (Swe: semesterlön). One is the percentage rule (Swe: procentregeln) where vacation is calculated as a percentage of what the employee earned during the accrual year. The second is the same-pay rule (Swe: sammalöneregeln), which means that the employee, during their vacation, receives his or her usual monthly salary, any fixed salary components and a vacation pay supplement. The same-pay rule is the standard rule to be used according to the Annual Leave Act.
